Skin Application Now Disabled
OK, I made an executive decision: I disabled the ability to apply skins directly to Blogger-powered weblogs. Why? Take a look at the results of the survey to your left -- the thing obviously doesn't work. Although I've never personally had trouble applying skins directly to my weblog(s), that doesn't mean it's bug free. There is a method, however, that is (or should be)... downloading the skins. Here's how to do it for Blogger:
  1. From the info page for the skin that you desire, click on Blogger under "Download this skin:"
  2. Your browser will pop open a window asking you if you want to save or open the file. Choose save.
  3. Save the file to a location on your computer, and remember that location. I recommend the Desktop.
  4. Login to Blogger, and click on the "Template" button.
  5. Find the file you downloaded from BlogSkins, and open it in Notepad, BBEdit, or your favorite text editor.
  6. Select all of the text in your text editor (in most Windows applications, hitting "CTRL+A" will do this for you.) Copy the text to your clipboard (again, in most Windows applications, hitting "CTRL+C" will do this)
  7. Go back to your browser with your Blogger Template page open. Select all of the text in the textarea (your existing template). Hit delete. Paste your new skin from your clipboard into the textarea. ("CTRL+V" in Windows).
  8. Hit the "save changes" button
  9. Lastly, hit the "publish" button in Blogger to upload your new pages to your server
Ok, I know that sounds complicated and long, but it's really not that bad. Besides, it's your only choice ;-)

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments to this post.

Update: Thanks to tarheelpundit for this handy tip that I forgot: "you might want to suggest that they back up their original HTML code in case there are problems..." In step 7 above, instead of hitting delete, you should copy it your clipboard and paste it into an empty document in your text editor and save it... Just in case.
