I've been wondering about this for a while now. Why's everyone so obsessed with perfect ratings of consistent 5 stars, so much so to the point that when someone spoils the '5 star chain' with a 4 or 4.5, the skin submitter gets upset?
Does having a SOTD skin really please everyone that much? It's good for recognition, I suppose. But many of the SOTD designers are already 'famous' themselves!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. As such, blogskinners HAVE to accept the fact that not EVERYONE will love their skin and rate it a 5. Also, I believe that many blogskinners are churning out skins because of their obsession with SOTD/5 star ratings. I think we should make skins because we like making them, and we want to share our works with others, and not because of any other reasons.

It's true people who make blogskins can't help but care when ratings go down. I mean, I don't even care about them much, but it still disappointed when one of my skins got a 3 after a line of 4.5s and 5s.
But it's not the end of the world. There are a whole lot of other things to do, and there are always people who you won't please.
Keep making your skins and have fun! That's the whole deal, isn't it?

i left blogskins for this very reason.
rising competition(or rather, childish competition) spoils the fun and the passion.
hunger and greed for higher ratings, fame and glory overwhelmed the fundamental joy of design.
sigh.
as much as competition and ratings urge people to generate better products, it brews selfishness and greed.

Its not childish competition, we don't go around wailing when we don't get exactly high ratings, or don't get sotd. Seriously, who does? So in what way, it is childish competition?

As a past insert-number-of-SOTW in a row SOTW winner, I just wanna say, it really gives a sense of success, and eventually competition subconsciously? It's like.. seeing your artwork get praised continously and suddenly some jerk comes in and go boo on you, it's like suddenly throwing you down the state building.
Lol, but now I find it annoying to see people get upset or get excited like they won the nobel prize :/ SOTW is no big deal now, and I'm not even appealed nor amused by the current skin chosen for SOTW. There's no substance that makes me look at the screenshot a second time and the system is unfair.
Wait, I'm digressing.
It has all gotten boring anyway.

I agree sooo much. One particular blogskins poster (I wont say who -_-) actually gives people red flags who rates his skins below 5 stars, so all his skins are usually 5 stars rated. When you leave a comment about this 'greed of his 5 stars wanting', he resubmits the skin. Darn it. Top rated skins would be shown, and it gives a more chance for the admins of the site to grant it with SOTD. I agree with illusioNATION. Who cares about stars, its about expressing what u feel inside.

Yeah you just can't please everyone. Make them to please yourself so it won't be a big deal.
It can be a little frustrating though even if you don't care about ratings. I agree about the subconscious thing. Imagine getting 5 stars every time then someone rates 4.5 by accident (but was really going for a five). I've tried that, and you just can't help but feel a little bad about it.
Which is why (back to the beginning haha) you should make them to please yourself.
