I've actually left BS.com, but I'm coming back just to make this thread.

For people who can't read it, here's what it says(without the links since I'm too much of a lazy shit to link them):

Bottomline? You can't just go ripping off ideas/colour schemes/codings from LJ comms anymore. Contrary to what BS.com used to think, it actually IS a form of plagiarism, like it or not.
Don't come whining to me about how it's unfair and you're not ripping and whatnot. I don't really care. I'm here just to tell you that the skins you guys used to call inspiration are actually ripping off to their respective owners.

Yea.  I'm glad that I don't make such skins. All these started when people want to bring in LJ skins into Blogger. Since not many people use livejournal and won't be able to use them? Anyway wingweaver22 did mention this in fruitstyle: Do not redistribute or "convert" my layouts on other sites like Blogskins. Thanks. The layouts found here are for Livejournal only. And I know she has a Bs account too.

!CASUALTIES} in the past I didn't really see it as 'ripping off' I guess, I liked those skins as well, but now after reading the link I sort of can understand it.

They have taken action by reporting to Myles.
They take plagiarism seriously and who knows that maybe they can sue you next.
I hope everyone here in the blogskins community learns a lesson from this.
and you guys might want to read the comments on that journal. They really put us Singaporean amateur designers to shame.

Like THEVERONICANOTE, I didn't think of that as ripping, but now I understand. I do have a LJ account and using now, but I don't make such skins for Blogger's. Because from what I see, Blogger & Livejournal layouts are completely 2 different things. If I do get inspired to do a blogskin, I would be inspired by another Blogger skin, not Livejournal. So I am lucky.

I think it is okay to use their ideas in blogger, but ya, do the credits and also inform them about it.

Woah, luckily this is my first. I don't normally get inspired/like an LJ layout that much to do that.
I've already apologized to them and sent a message to one of the maintainers of thrashmetal to find out what he/she would like me to do.
But one of those people who commented claimed that we took all the codes from them, so I was just wondering if anyone really took them wholesale? Because in my case I never did. -_-

It is always respectful to ask for permission first, but sometimes we are all too ignorant. Then again, ideas get repetitive no matter how we try to do it from scratch and put effort into it.
Glad that you've raised this up. Most of the people are sometimes unaware of plagiarising when they get influenced from inspirations. Can't really be blamed, but we should all be careful when it comes to such things.

Mhm agree with Angela. On second thought, I'd just delete the layout off, since I'm more interested in collages nowadays, rather than LJ-inspired ones. (They're getting boring don't you think, everyone's like doing the same thing all over again.) :b

Actually not doing LJ skins doesn't mean no more simply layouts [: well there's still css skin that are none LJ ^^

It's the idea that's important. Creating an idea that is brand new and never done before is HARD and it is also TIME CONSUMING! Creativity takes a lot of effort you know!
To Xavqior:
If any of the Blogger layout makers asked the LJ guys for premission to convert their layout into Blogger, i'm pretty sure that they will allow them to do it as long as they get credit for the idea and design!
The big problem is... that nobody asked. Of the 4 or 5 people that have converted layouts from my layout community... none of them asked for permission!
