After reading THEVERONICANOTE'S thread, I'm here to start a motion whereby all of us should remove those LJ-inspired layouts that we've done. I am personally guilty of doing that for a layout of mine, and I've started this motion myself by deleting that layout.
It definitely doesn't hurt to get those layouts down, rather than being labeled "plagiarizing" and "copying" others' layouts. I personally think that we should all remove those layouts and avoid doing this again. To be a blogskinner, we are all creative in a different way and we should design layouts ourselves, not getting inspired by similar layouts. I feel that it is very important, as a matter of fact, that we should delete the layouts and come out with a brand new one by ourselves.

I've read a post in the mintyapple community in LJ, and they're quite pissed at the fact that people copy/ripped their skins and posted them on blogskins.com. So yes. Just thought everyone should know (:

saying something is "LJ-inspired" doesn't justify stealing the codes others have spent hours on. you should all DEFINITELY remove these stolen layouts.

Hello there but I really think you should do some comparisons before accusing us of stealing LJ layouts!  Claiming that we "stole" the layouts is taking this issue to a whole new level. We just took the ideas from the layouts because we can't possibly just copy and paste the codes from LiveJournal S1/S2 and paste it into the Blogger template editor and wah-lah, you get a skin, right? Similarly, we took several hours coding the layout to be suitable for Blogger too!
And also, we have already sincerely apologised for this series of events and even made this pact to remove layouts that bear heavy resemblance to layouts from LJ communities. So, perhaps it is time we made peace instead of war

People who get inspired from LJ skins code them from scratch to suit Blogger.
Although it may be still considered a form of plagiarism since the concept is adapted from it , it is certainly not nice to accuse others of "stealing the codes", since that is untrue. I believe those designers only wanted to benefit Blogger users by converting LJ skins, and unintentionally plagiarised unknowingly.

I personally think there's nothing wrong with being " inspired " by LJ layouts.
Whats wrong with that?
I like LJ inspired blogskins very much and its not "plagiarizing" and "copying" others' layouts.
Even though you get inspired by them, you don't " copy " or "plagiarize " the work fully.
You just make a skin similiar to them.
Many people like LJ-inspired skins so why should you guys bring them down?

I think by inspire, it doesn't mean you can copy the whole thing.
Inspire just means that the layout brings you a sort of feeling that you can make something, but is definitely different from the mentioned layout.
Inspire =/= Plagiarizing.

Agreed with /!nsomnia®.
Well, in the real world, the consequence would be worse if ideas are taken. Taking away someone's concept would be the equivalent of stealing.
But this is not as serious on the internet since ripping has become so rampant that when it only comes to adapting ideas from others, we do not seem to consider it as sinful as if we did it in the real world (like I said, most of us are still ignorant and did not do anything on intention). Artists, be it online or not, have all the rights to protect their work.

Even though some layouts claimed that it was 'inspired' but layouts already made on Livejournal, they even used the same textures that the original creators used. :/

I just feel that the LJ similar layouts you people make are lovely and its really a waste to delete them.

Apparently, as much as most of us would want to keep those LJ converted skins, the original designers have raised their unhappiness regarding this issue and thus it is only right to respect their decision for keeping these skins only for LJ.
It is considered ripping in a way, only that the intention was harmless.

Being inspired is not wrong, yes. But in this case, it is almost considered as plagiarizing. I like LJ-inspired ones too, but nowadays the trend is getting so rampant they all look almost alike, almost the same. Don't you find it very boring? I do. I'm partially hoping that this incident would change the so-called "trend" down here, and people will consider using collage layouts or designing layouts with big and loud images.

Hm, I believe I understand who's layouts you're referring to. That's true, I do not deny that, but if you look at it on a whole, most of the LJ-inspired ones down here are mostly plain ones, without any textures/patterns and such.

I'm removing the layouts now cause i've had it with hate tags at me blog calling me a thief. It's annoying yes. I agree with Tuesday night but we're not plagiarzing. If we were, we wouldn't even credit them. Besides, we do not claim the designs as our own. It is only plagiarism if we claim the layouts to be our own. I also agree with Xavqior that we do take the effort to code the skins. Again, it is wrong of us to do so, so everyone, orginal is better yup.

midnight run, cheer up ya! We shouldn't take everything that's been said to us to heart but simply start anew. As long as we deleted the layouts, we took action and respected their rights i'd say we did the right thing =)
