After reading THEVERONICANOTE'S thread, I'm here to start a motion whereby all of us should remove those LJ-inspired layouts that we've done. I am personally guilty of doing that for a layout of mine, and I've started this motion myself by deleting that layout.
It definitely doesn't hurt to get those layouts down, rather than being labeled "plagiarizing" and "copying" others' layouts. I personally think that we should all remove those layouts and avoid doing this again. To be a blogskinner, we are all creative in a different way and we should design layouts ourselves, not getting inspired by similar layouts. I feel that it is very important, as a matter of fact, that we should delete the layouts and come out with a brand new one by ourselves.
Now, who's with me?

Yep, I agree with Denise. After all, we took the necessary actions right after the incident happened, and we were not unreasonable eh?

I can't believe the severity of this issue. Oops~

Just a short notice - I've posted up the link of this thread on mintyapple and the one of the mods have replied, so yes I hope the severity of this issue is dying down soon!
At least I tried my best to resolve it by peaceful means x.x

Ya i know. But copying is pretty severe. We perpertrated their rights and went on to copy so it is our fault. They're calling me a thief and stuff. Don't they know that thief and copycat both have different meanings? It's frustrating really.

I personally believe both parties have their faults. Although adapting their layouts without their express permission or consent even if we did code them ourselves is indeed wrong, it's not quite right for some of them to proclaim we merely "rip off" them and "will continue to rip stuff off". Most of us were just honestly and genuinely liking the layouts a lot and wanted to adapt and use them for and in Blogger, and had never ever claimed the designs to be wholly ours.
Like Yeling has noted, the best remedy now to this unsatisfactory state of affairs is to remove all "LJ-inspired layouts".

Thanks. (: And they should be flattered that we like their skins enough to use it as a guideline.

ouch. really just shows how "original" we all are.
how disappointing actually. i didn't expect some of the skinners here to...
but whatever, whats done is done,
good start yeling

Thank you so much for doing this.
Wingweaver22 and I didn't want to run to the admins on this site without seeing if there were some alternate solution. It can become the norm to use certain graphics or designs without permission/credit (and it happens on LJ too) and by the time its discovered, things can get very messy. And just yesterday I came across an individual who just didn't care about giving credit or anything else so really wasn't sure what to expect. Am so relieved y'all are taking the initiative to take care of it directly!
Some of us do actually allow for our designs to be used on other sites - its mentioned in our FAQs usually, and while it may require a line or two in a commen and linking in certain ways, not all of us are against inspired layouts - if notified first So feel free to drop us a note!

Aww hugs, guys ♥ I guess the main point is not to edit and redistribute as your own.

I thank everyone! I'm glad this is being taken care of professionally.
I would also like to apologize to anyone who feels sad because the LJ people are calling you thieves. I'm sure that none of you thought that taking a design from LJ and converting it to Blogger wasn't nice... Even if you did list the LJ maker as "inspiration"... you didn't tell them.
I would just like to say:
If you would like to convert a layout designed for LJ, you should really talk to the LJ layout maker first. If you do not talk to them about it and they find out, they will think you're stealing their design and ideas.
Also, getting inspired doesn't mean copying the entire thing. You take parts and pieces that stand out and create something totally new with some of those parts and pieces in it. I think that your "inspired" layouts should not look like the inspiration when finished...

I'm glad this worked out, and I'm terribly sorry that this had happened. However, it would be nice of the LJ people if they would stop giving rude comments because, we do know it was our fault to start with and we tried to resolve it by means that we could.
And well, to stop stereotyping Singaporeans because afterall, we do try to make it a point to make things right when they go wrong.

Wth. Now I hate the word, "inspire".

Wow @ the motion. This is amazing. Great pointer there. (: I don't have any though. Else I'd remove it. :|
But nevertheless, SUPPORT.
Oh, and THEVERONICANOTE:
You pointed out something quite crucial. Don't feel bad.

Good point. We should have some originality, I'm with you.
But I usually dont get inspired by LJ's skins.

(Y) I hope this will stop the trend of LJ inspired skins

The haters at toomunch really went overboard after this escapade /:
Ahwell, at least you guys tried to resolve things in a calm and mature way (: I don't get inspired by LJ and I'm a bit n00b at even customising my own LJ ._.

Hi!
I used to be pullyourtangles, but I deleted my whole account 'cos I can't remember which were the skins that have been inspired by LJ. I totally second what tuesdaynight's saying and I'm sorry for all the trouble and stuff ):
I hope this clears up soon!
|
| |
| |
|

Honestly, yeah. People have been losing originality already. And pullyourtangles, I'm sure it'll be alright, I think it's already starting to clear up already!

I think there's like a super-thin line between inspiration and plagiarism/ripping/copying. Yeah of course in a way, unintentionally we're wrong but I feel that the original designers over at LJ, even though they have a point, can sometimes get their point across is a seriously mean way. Oh well.
I think I'm going to delete my account to make my life easier. Then I don't have to obsess over whether or not I should delete my more-or-less LJ-skin-inspired/copied (depends on your perspective). Zzz.

I just feel kinda bad that this has caused some of your work to in a way, go down the drain. After all, plagiarism or not, I know it couldn't have been easy for you guys to recode the layouts :/
