Okay. Since theres the PhotoArt Contest going on, just thought I'd do this, to make you guys a little more aware of what you can do.
Take note, my camera is a REALLY OLD camera. Thats like, lousy and fat. So don't go thinking I'm using a good camera thus setting a difference. And I'm not a professional just as yet, I'm just offering what little I know.

1) WHITE BALANCE.
If you have no idea what this is, NO FRET. Basically, majority of digital cameras have little bulbs inside of them that can change their brightness or colours in order to take a picture best. Most people just switch their cameras to "auto" and it will automatically adjust accordingly to your surroundings. But sometimes, you need to manually tweak it as the camera sensors might not be sensitive enough. Hmm, for example,
My camera on AUTO

With white balance

Basically, to set white balance, just go to your camera menu, and look around for white balance. I'm not too sure how to direct you on this, because different cameras have different layouts. Oh, if you're using a DV camera, you can set white balance by pressing the "down" arrow or moving the joystick down. Most handphones don't have it. But some have presets. Like "night" or something.
Be sure your camera is not set on auto before you set white balance.
2) Hand posture
Yes, hand posture does matter when taking pictures. Else, its going to be slanted or blur. Tuck in your elbows so that they touch your body. If you're taking a picture from a low angle, don't squat. Kneel.
3) Focus
Every picture must have a focus. Be it a person, an action, or a thing. A picture without focus is meaningless. Its like, you're not trying to take anything. So be sure of what you want to capture before you do.

4) Head Space
This is for photos with PEOPLE. Its the space above the person's head. Too little is bad, too much isn't good either. Be sure there is a good amount of head space. I can't show you any examples... I'll try get my hands on some.
Errr, this is all I can think of at a glance. If you have anything to offer, do write it down too! I tried to be as clear cut as possible. hope its good.

my teacher also told me about the rule of thirds.
on some new cameras you can get the grid by pressing on the display settings.
the idea is to imagine the image on your screen has lines on it like...

and the idea is to put your main focus of the image on the points where the lines intersect. they sort of give the image a little more of a focal point and makes the focus kind of POP out at you. and example would be like.....

yeps. that's the rule of thirds in photography. hope it helps.
i take art for o levels. and i'm doing digital graphic design as a medium. so my photography is also a component apparently. yeps.

theboydisturbed My teacher also taught me that!Try taking a picture of the durian(Esplanade). These grids work very well with buildings. And also make sure to keep the building at the left hand side.A beautiful masterpiece will be seen.
My photography ain't that good. But my school is teaching us.My camera sucks anyway. Its 6 MP.And yet i totally gave up a 10MP camera i longed for for a Nitendo Wii.
