I'm not starting a thread to stop people from submitting layouts that are lj-inspired or anything, but I'm sick an tired of seeinng simple skins with bad coding.
Simples skins are simply codes, so if you can't code well, what's the point of doing a simple skin? I'm not targeting anyone but it's plain stupid to submit a simple skin with everything so primitive, like having a title and two columns - one for posts and the other for profile and whatnot. Can our simpler skins be more loud, in a sense?

yeah it's kinda true and irritating.. but..
i think i'm considered one if the idiots who submit skins with a title and two columns?

almost all my skins are like that..
only navi skins and my latest one are exceptional...

Yeah agree. Some of them even just get basecodes from some users and edit the bg or the words only.

Simple skins are okay, its just a matter whether the skinner have the skills to make a simple skin looks gorgeous. But nowadays there're too many simple simple skins being submitted...

Some are even too simple to the point of being black & white and two-columned...
Well, I'm learning how to use selective colouring, curves, levels and whatnot (:

no one's interested in using crowded skins full of images, don't ask us to do what's not useful anymore.

evme I'm not saying simple skins are bad, I just find it irritating that the simple skins today have bad coding, which is pretty much just coding.

I think I get what you're saying.
Yeah, simple skins are okay.
But the thing is, there are many of the same kind of simple-simple - as what Annihilated. has said, the default Title + 1 column for blog entry + 1 column for profile, links etc. kind.
Simple is fine, but there should more variations in the placement of the content on the page etc...

whoa whoa. simple skins are fine for me. just not too simple, like a bunch of words chunked together with another bunch of words(entries). i don't like too complicated stuff. i LOVE skins with pictures.
but uhh.. seems like people here don't really agree with the simple part~

evme I'm not sure what you're getting at, but all I feel is that if people are intending to submit skins that are badly coded, they might as well not.

maybe if they're not good coders they shouldn't submit skins which are concentrated on coding and typography. but if if they don't, they will never improve their skills. I think we should let them improve, and maybe help them.

Hmmm well it all helps if everyone does not fav it.
after all these skins are popular as many people keep faving it.
so people submit them because they know that many love it.
a chance to get SOTD bah =D

i am sorry but i am one of those people who do : 1 title, 1 column for entry and 1 column for profile
but these are the most basic things people want..
- to introduce themselves
- a place to write their entries
- a theme for their blog
- a place to have tagboard
- and not to mention links and credits
i once tried to do differently in my previous account, but it was labelled "weird"
so thats why i am back to the basics

It's not just the bad coding, some of those skins look exactly the same or almost the same. It's getting boring.

Everyone have their own taste and they don't always go along with everyone.
And the blogskin also depends on their mood.
Everyone takes time to do a blogskin,
if ue insult their skins like that,

I'm neutral about simple skins but I'm honestly getting irritated with the flood of people who just rip from someone else and only change the background. It's gotten to the point whereby I don't rate or comment anymore.
And Lyyn, if the submitters are the kind that don't do their own codes and just change the background and the text type, it only takes 5 minutes tops. It really depends on what kind of simple skin you're talking about.

simplicity is beauty. different people have different opinions on whether the skin should contain images or not.

Yes, different people have different tastes, yadah yadah yadah.
But if people looking at simple skins only see copies of the same codes over and over again, just different header text and backgrounds what's to stop them from going to a different blogskins community (yes, there ARE other blogskins communities besides this humble one we're on...)? Changing text doesn't require rocket science y'know.
Ernest is only looking at those who DON'T code their own skins. He's looking at those who only take someone else's codes and only changes the background. All you have to do is read the one sentence below to get the main picture:
"Simple skins are simply codes, so if you can't code well, what's the point of doing a simple skin?"
Read between the lines people, that way no unnecessary fights will break out...
