I was just wondering, has anyone heard of the Day Of Silence? It is an event held to protest against the bullying and sexual/physical harassment of LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transexuals). This year's Day of Silence was held in memory of Lawrence King, a homosexual was murdered because of his sexuality.
I don't know what your views on LGBT are, but yeah, just asking. The Day of Silence was held on the 25th of April, but I missed it. It is supposed to be a national event, only held in the US, but my friends and I got around to talking about it, and we were wondering why we couldn't hold it in other countries, too.
If any of you support LGBT, and want to actually do something against the anti-LGBT and their supporters, please help. For Singapore, it will be held on the 2nd of May instead. A couple of people already know about it, but I thought that since blogskins is such a huge community, more people would see it.
I know that many of you will be having your MYE around this time, but that's even better, since you have no reason to talk to others anyway (which is exactly the point of the event).
If you're interested in taking part, please email hurricanecat04@hotmail.com for more info. Or just add me on msn. Thanks.
EDIT: You guys kinda got it right, but...well, let me explain it. When I say you shouldn't talk, you're not supposed to talk at all. It's like fasting, except you don't speak. Easier to understand now? :]

No, is it we're not supposed to talk about them?

I feel it's really unfair to discriminate against homosexuality, even religions too (please do not reply with regards to this statement) as long as it's love, it isn't wrong, isn't it?

i don't get it :O

Er, you're not supposed to talk at all. It's an imitation of how LGBT are kept silent. The silence can be broken at the end of the day, maybe at about 4pm-6pm.

I think I get the idea.
We are not supposed to talk about LGBT at all on that day because the talk about them always gets out of hand - i.e. it gets negative and discriminative.
Am I right? ._. But I think this is making an assumption haha.

Just edited it, hope it doesn't sound so confusing now.
Joseph: Lol, er, you could say that, I guess.

Ooops, I think I shouldn't laugh.
I GOT IT I GOT IT. We should keep perfect silence on that day if we are with the movement, eh?

Quite frankly I don't see how not speaking for a whole day can "protest against the bullying and sexual/physical harassment of LGBT".
Just an opinion; no offence, really.

i guess it's the thought that counts.
a lot of things don't really help, but its a way of showing support.
i'm definitely taking part.

LOL Is it because the Singapore branch of this movement didn't want to be too suspicious of following this movement since the government is not really so supportive of homosexuality, so they held it on a different day?
Just my stupid guess. Because I heard of people getting into trouble with the Police when they actually joined in a human rights movement, in Singapore.

|

ohh I see
|
| |
| |
|

Maybe, lol. You've got a point there, though. The goverment's not exactly supportive of LGBT :/
eclair-x: Like DancingSheep said, it's the thought that counts. While we can't really help the LGBT themselves, we can at least try to change the homophobes in Singapore. And trust me, they make up the majority of the population.

i guess if everyone is shutting up, i can too, but if someone's telling a joke, then...
and i dun care about those homo people.

I think by being silent for the whole day doesn't protest against it, it's just a symbolic way of protesting against it.
It's just like the peace sign, it is made to symbolize peace, but it cannot bring about peace.
It's just a symbolic way of protesting against criticism of LGBT, I guess.

COMMUNICATE USING PEN & PAPER! Write stuff like, "Buy ____ for me, thanks," and show it to your friends. Then they can help you buy it. It's best to inform your friends in advance about what you're doing on Friday :]

Maybe the teachers will support the day of silence movement too!
