Frankly speaking; I think BS is under-going a new generation where coding matters the most.
Just look at the past skins, they have beautiful images with beautiful coding.
I am here for the past 4 years, therefore I noticed that change.
haha
what do you think? what changes most in skinning in the recent years

yeah.. agree.. some of the skins here are you-know..
well... last week.. i must say the skins are polluted with horrible and crapped up skins
no offence i mean they shouldnt submit skins which they knew that is horrible then yet they submit it ..
some are like they edited only half of it and looks like its halfed ripped then say all credits goes to this person then why did they bother to create it then submit it
(sorry for the off-topic)
no offense

Hmmm..
I wasn't here for THAT long but I think there were more what I like to call as 'twit skins' last year.
/Agree with Ms.SockPuppet,
the people know that their skin suck but instead of improving it, they submitted it..

They just give the reason as I don't know how... or I have no photoshop.
Its so annoying.
Some how I feel that BLOGGER has lost its uniqueness.
And live journal is taking over. Revolution?
I really hope we can go back in future.
ZOOM haha

Exactly!
So what if you don't have photoshop?
There's always GIMP or MS Paint.
Paint can do really nice stuff too if they'd put effort in it.
I mean like, gosh. They don't take the initiative to learn...
I think the only thing that's stopping people to use LJ is the ads. Hahaha.

I suck at doing images.

hmm,ive not been here long either.but i have had previous accounts.
and i think people here are getting more...no,lets just say not able to face up to reality.
for example,i rate a skin, and give comments on how to improve, instead they retaliate and say "you think your skins very nice meh?"
-.-
*sighs*

i'm a proud user of gimp.
there's definitely a change.
the blogskinners last time are so much more matured.
and the skins nowadays are getting twity and effortless, and really bad attitude.
i've been here for at least three years.

to XSTACY,u said in your previous skin u would be trying out vectors.can vectors be done in gimp?
|
| |

Do not underestimate the power of Gimp (bwahahahahaha)
With the paths tool it is possible.

LOL,im stil a noob at GIMP,but im learning

In the past, navigational skins that come with a Gettyimage photo were the rage. Then it moved on to brush-spamming skins. And now, lj layouts are being raved.
|

lol. i have been here for four years too!
but anyway,
i have already learn to accept the change.
and yes, i hate to accept it.
but as new people comes in,
more different things were invented.
i mean like i dont mind brush spamming, as long as there is effort.
not everyone can brushspam beautifully.
eg; IA's works are nicely spammed.
so my bottomline is,
i feel that its no longer like the past,
i mean blogger skins should show its uniqueness using the image.
and the main focus should be image!

While the LJ-inspired layouts can be nice, there are just too many. It's getting boring.

i wannago back to the old days.

I don't know lah..
Agree with sweet-melancholy,
awhile ago it was xanga-inspired.
Now it's LJ's..
Unless your codes are really really interesting/fresh/ good,
skins without images are really.. *sigh*
Agree with `regina, I too, usually focus on the image. (i hate coding, period)
Or maybe that's just me -_-

agree with sweet-melancholy, xavqior.
what i recalled, was that navigational skins were more common in the past, and more focus was on the image. the codes were simple, and the background to the codes are not always a fixed squareee? ( lol )

to me, i'm seeing the standard of the skins getting better and better (codes).
however, image wise, well not as incredible as kukuthebird and lionheart...the LEK GANG. haha.
i miss the model collages too.
i think after codes, in the next generation, its gonna be animation? LOL! my fav part. who knows.

I can't really tell because I've not been here that long (okay, I've been here since I was 9, that's 3 years but I've only been active last year).
But I can tell that people are getting more and more conceited altogether.
If you tell someone that their skin isn't good and can be improved, they'll start bombarding you with "Your skins are nicer meh?" "Who are you to tell me this?" "Why you rate me down!" etcetc.
And people are more SOTD-obsessed which in turn leads a 5-star streak obsession too.
Lol, I'm getting off-track.
*runs to corner and hides*
|

|

judging from the previous years' SOTDs, i think there is sooooooooo much difference.
it seems that last time, the main focus of a particular skin is the image.
but today, everyone wants simple, livejournal-inspired skins.
what can we do anyway? we are just designers, we create what people want.
|
| |
| |
|
| |
The image is the main focal point of the skin, isn't it, unless it's meant to be imageless,
then people look more at the codes instead. Both are important anyway.

ahh, seasons change, people change.

character change. peace and harmony in BS change.
Be guilty of what we did. Lets move on.
