okay, i was listening to check yes juliet by we the kings. Anyway, this is my really tiny suggestion.
I think, just look at the SOTDs, i really think there's just too many simple skins. i mean, enough is enough. Where are all the huge design layouts. i know simple skins are easy to make, maybe i am not a really good person to be telling you this since i have my pullthetrigger account which i have stopped using, but this is a little too much.
We should get back to the rapemyskin, thatphobia, inksplash, magnette, kriss, heroine, shotgun, psychopoetry, manikka, robox, sfmy , animate_, evilsaints, (soldmysmile), TheAngryMob, eraseme, coram_deo, provocative, poised, luridslick, leblogskincritique, etc days.
Bottomline: stop simple, get big and loud. (layouts)
We always have waves of people joining blogskins, different generations doing big things, now it's all simple. maybe i am just a nobody, maybe i am just another user on blogskins.com, but really, it's quite disappointing to see people skinning simple when everyone can learn/ can do big and loud skins.
Maybe everyone can add this slogan in their skin's description

and link to this thread and let this spread. i bet you are all tired of simple skins. there is already a lot and enough to satisfy everyone so now, big.

hi, hilary here.
personally, i appreciate this. your efforts to stop all these simple stuff that has been going viral throughout blogskins. i support it.
however, the problem here is, to everyone here, please stop using me as an example of this. the simple skins now are so much different from the ones i made last time in my lt account. the ones you see as sotd are not copies of disintegrate or roll the dice or whatever. they're just big text in arial and the entries below. the only difference is that they changed the colours. i put in effort into ensuring the variety in my simple skins last time. you don't see me putting up different versions of the same thing, right?
and, my style is not only simple and neat. i have another account swarmed with 40+ image skins, so yeah. it's not good for you guys to say that i started this, when in fact, it wasnt me who transformed blogskins into a place flooded with those types of skins i mentioned above.

Well, the prob is simple skins have been around for a very long time, just that it has been made noticed now. I don't think it's simply a trend. Just check out myles' skins 
Just that we should encourage people to make skins out of their imagination box, yup.

They just change the fonts/colors then submit it again.

I support this! Big and loud skins are awesome because they last longer IMO. I'm more likely to stick with something that's detailed and flamboyant rather than a skin that's simple.

:X hm i'm more comfortable with just CSS and HTML though, i mean, simple skins when done properly have their appeal too. And i'm referring to good ones, like maybe from kissandtell, pullthetrigger etc. Just stating my preference though

That is a good proposal. Hopefully everyone starts coming up with more innovative skins instead of leeching on others' basecodes. And maybe by the time everyone starts coming up with image skins, a new trend with images will start over again.

Mmh, I think it depends on your definition of simple. I think right now you're referring to those.. CSS-based, livejournal type skins? If so, yes I support that people stop following that trend. Even though I like using those skins because they are more customisable, I still prefer looking at skins which have impressive images like those in the days of daylockheart and kukuthebird, which most skins nowadays don't. And one of the good thing about images it's harder to follow trends cos everyone have different way of making images.

Well some of them, in fact, most of them have disappeared.
We have new skinners now and new ideas are coming in to blogskins.com.
And yes, I do agree that blogskinners should bring back the olden days. =]
In my opinion, a skinner can create simple skins but also skins of other types, such as the ones with collages, hand drawn, photographs and so on. That makes a skinner an ideal skinner. He/she is able to explore art through blog. =]
But, it is useless to bring up the SOTD subject because nothing can be done.
SOTD is a system based on votes. Votes, meaning, number of favourites.
Okay, maybe not useless because hopefully, people's mind will be changed.
But, if these people are new, there is a high chance that they may not know what the 'olden' days are. Majority, i believe, is new.

my point is not about sotd though. more of, people try to go into the big and loud area, because there is enough ljstyle layouts.
and im not saying that everyone should stop. just, slow down and decrease. the point of this thread, my point is, just to tell people that you should start submitting more loud and big skin as much as we love the old days with all the great designers around. though now, many have left, the new people should try to make big and loud skins.

i can't believe my name's actually up there. how flattering.
well for now skinning's gotta take a backseat. exams are like, 2 weeks away. and then i'm PACKED for the holidays. lols, i'll be travelling to 2 countries during the holidays. whee. supposed to be 3, but my parents said no. sad.
anyways, i agree that the simple skins are getting a bit TOO common. and i can't exactly say i'm not a culprit of falling into it. because there was a certain period of time where my mind was so cluttered, my blog needed to be empty so that i wouldn't get pissed.
i guess it depends on the mindset you have when you make skins.
and you have no idea how often i've been saying that everything depends on mindset.
