Most people, i noticed either save their picture in .jpg format or .bpm format.By saving in that format it will crush the image and the quality will be bad. SAVE YOUR PICTURES in .png format. It saves a lot.
If you don't believe me see the difference yourself!

The thing is, PNG is in fact a better choice when placed with JPEG. Depending on the amount of colors and size, it should be relatively larger than JPEG but higher quality for web images.

PNG is better for images with solid colours, eg large areas of purple or white, whereas JPEG is better for images with a lot of colours, eg photographs. When an image like a photograph is saved in the PNG file format, the file size will be noticebly larger than the same photograph saved in JPEG file format.

However, as if-ever said, when images are saved in PNG format, the quality will be higher as PNG file formats use only lossless compression. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossless_data_compression for more info about data compression.)

For viewing on the average monitor, .jpg and .png difference is negligible. I use .png's when I do something for print, because its basically like a compressed .tif. If one is using Photoshop, and saves their image as a jpeg, and keep the quality the highest possible setting, there is no reason why its not a good format.

The main difference lies in file size, so when designing for web and when download times need to be as small as possible, I cast my vote for a quality jpg.

PNG files may not be multi-browser compatible, i once experienced a problem with this. the color of the img was fine in Firefox but it turned a different shade in IE. after i switched to JPEG, it was okay.
