If you are using this tutorial, I will assume that you already know the basics (Feather, Invert etc.).

1. What are the Blending Options at the Layers section for? The blending options are used to give your graphics a certain effect. For example, Overlay is commonly used for textures, patterns and making your image brighter. And Dissolved is like a mini-Noise effect.

2. What are the filters for? In many tutorials, the filters are used. For example, the sharpen and ripples are used to make cracks in textures. And the filters can be used in graphics.

3. What are the Layer Styles for? Instead of Ctrl+Click and Stroke, you just go to the Layer Styles to apply Glows, Shadows, Outlines, Bevels etc.

4. How come sometimes when I make a new image, the base layer is "locked"? You cannot do anything to the base layer until it is unlocked. Just double-click on it and select OK.

5. I don't use the custom shapes tool- why did Adobe put it there? Ahhh. I use it. The images can be used as abstract art, and used to make many brushes. Thank your Adobe people for that, kiddo.

6. AHHH! My panels and options bar disappeared, now what? Don't fret, go to Windows at the top bar and click on the panels that you want.

7. How come I only have Lasso tool and not Polygonal Lasso tool? You have never ventured, have ya? Right-click on your Lasso tool and you can choose the Polygonal tool as well. Same goes for fill bucket, gradient etc. Right-clicking does a lot.

8. What does Anti-Aliased mean? Anti-Aliased means smooth. It makes your edges smoothh. Nice, right?

9. How do I Desaturate my image? Adjustments. You can choose from a variety of controls.

10. What is the Merge Visible for? Sometimes, you want to duplicate the whole image and make a new blending option for a different effect etc. It is troublesome to repeat the steps, and the results prove to be disastrous. So you use the Merge Visible to Merge the whole image together, with no side effects. The Merge Layers has many side effects. If you need to use the Merge Layers (not whole image), click on the "eye" of those that you don't want to merge and click merge visible.

I hope that helped. :)
