be more specific. the code goes where you want it to go... wherever. Unless you are more specific and tell us what your problem is, we can't help you.

It's kind of hard to answer your question because I'm not sure exactly what it is you're asking of us. Are you asking (1) where in your blog you should place the hit counter, (2) where you may obtain a free hit counter, or (3) how to correctly paste the counter code into your blog's code because you're unsure?
If you're asking the (1) question, I suppose a good place for your hit counter would be somewhere right below your list of links and/or your archives. Another area to consider would be right below the last journal entry.
If you're asking the (2) question, there are tons of free hit counters being offered. I personally use http://www.gostats.com/ and I've been very pleased with them thus far. You can also try entering "free hit counter" in a search engine; here are the results for google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=free+hit+counter
Finally, if you're asking the (3) question, the service providing your hit counter should have detailed instructions on how to properly insert your counter code. If you're using Blogger, the nice thing is that you're allowed to preview whatever adjustments you've made to your template before saving those changes. After you've inserted your counter code into your template, check the preview to make sure that you haven't messed up. If you're still unsure about where to actually paste the code, give us the URL to your blog and maybe one of us can actually point out where it needs to go.
Hope one of those answers covered your question!
