Of rating fairly and understanding the basics of good design.

You do not give a skin like http://blogskins.com/info/127060 a 5 (an example was in order. I wish not to persecute you). What's the point of building a rating system if you're just going to GIVE THEM A FIVE ANYWAYS?
The point of B/S.com is not to attain perfect ratings. If that were to happen, then the top 15 rated list would be redundant, because layouts with zero originality (and crap html-ing to boot) are going to end up there.
Give people ratings that they deserve. Don't just hand out 5's because you're nice/don't want to hurt the person's average rate. This only encourages bad designers to continue dishing out their bad designs because your critisism (if any at all) goes unnoticed because they are accomponied by pity-ratings. The person is going to think, "I don't care how butt ugly my skins are. I'm still going to get 5's anyway because the raters at B/S are big fat pansies." If the person's skin looks like a 2 to you, for heavens sake give them a 2.
Don't whine and bitch when some one says "great!" and gives you a 4.5. Last time I checked, 4.5 was and still is a good rating, though perfect it may not be. If you don't get rated fairly, you don't learn, and then B/S is going to be stuck in a butt-ugly-skin time warp that we will never dig ourselves out of because pussy raters are giving everyone 5's for their shody work.
Instead, consider originality, aesthetic quality, image quality, colour coordination and control, completeness of design, ALIGNMENT and so on...
Yes, I do realise that my own philosophy is a 5 or nothing at all, but you do notice that I only give them out when they are derserving of that 5. I am, to say the least, not easy to please. I do not suggest this route. Your rating options will go quite untouched.
Honestly. And I thought this place could sink no lower.

What's wrong with 4 stars?, you ask. First of all, take a gander at my comment, and you shall see how bad the skin must have been. If you're not convinced of the heftily bad quality that was that skin, I provide you with yet another screen shot.

Yea, I know.
The problem is now that everyone is giving 5 star ratings all over the place, I think we (we meaning everybody) should start rating fairly, and this "oh I have to be nice to you because you were nice to me" shit will end and rating will be useful once more.
That's not so hard, is it?

Oh, and about the tone of my comments, yes I agree I am quite rude, but sometimes people need a bit of tough love. If you notice, (most of the time, at least), I include bits of advice, though harsh it may come across.
When I say something like "naw, not at all", I'm trying to say that there's so much wrong with the skin that I can't even begin to correct it. Either that or I'm too lazy to give any proper comment.

I don't think I explained that point clearly enough.
For e.g, you write an amazing essay. Your teacher praises you and gives you a hug and puts you an a pedestal and gives you 99%. You're not going to throw a hissy fit, are you? Because 99% is very good, as is 4.5. 5 is perfect, and a lot of layouts on this website are far from perfect. They could be amazing, but not perfect.
Does that make sense? Just realise that 4.5 is not a bad rating. Realise that 4.5 hardly affects you at all. Who cares where the 0.5 went to. You got a fucking 4.5.

That is probably one of the most retarded statements I've ever heard through out my history here. Why even have that rating then? Why not just have a green flag/red flag system for everything.

Well unfortunately thats the hard truth, I've been on here for about half a year and read about forum topics on this and it just goes on and on and yes, nothing has changed, deal with it already. No one's going to care, nothing's going to change unless someone, well, by some miracle or something, do something to change this.
All skins are okay and the real bullshit skins are the stolen ones with deviantART stuff and all and the brush-spammed ones.

Maybe there should be a change to the rating system here at BS.com? I dunno. I agree that everyone seems to be hankering after 5 perfect stars. but seriously, can anything be perfect? Getting 4.5 stars is like getting a 90%. That's really good enough for me.
I usually only give 5 stars as a bonus... like if I think the skin layout is good plus the subject or the main focus of the skin is something I like.

maybe they should have a rating of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10? cuz ratings of 1-5 in range of 0.5 makes it very harsh. even though a 3 is the same as a 6, people look at the 3 and compare with the 5. it is only 2 apart so they may think it is good. however a 6 clearly shows that it is a very average rating. and if the rating is from 1 - 10, lesser people are willing to give a full 10. many will prefer a 8 or a 9. rather than a usual 4.5 or 5. the scale makes the rating a clearer one and only the best skins get ratings of 10. it is kinda obvious people wun give a 1 - 3. but the ones with ratings 5-7 will be more average ones.

i suggest removing the point system.. i find ratings too bias.. and ppl sometimes rate u 5 stars so that u will rate them 5 stars too

Oh yeah, 1-10 sounds like a nice idea. And one thing is that if you don't get a perfect 5, you don't get to go onto the Top 15. So everyone's complaining about it. It didn't used to be like that! lol. I think blogskins.com has gain more exposure, it's harder to get up there now with so many people posting skins all the time.

Skinners here are so shallow minded that their brains can't seem to accept critisism. Once u say something bad = u hate them. Opps I just realise something. If they say that.. that means those rated them high is becos they love THEM but not their Skin.
Someone actually say that " & who said we must make skins that work for you? totally ridiculous people. " If you don't make skins for us, who do u make it for!? Someone shoot that to me becos I commented on 1 skin that it's not customise for FF user.
I don't think that the way I commented was rude enough to piss ppl off. Well if I really did, tell me, I will think of a better way to phrase my sentence. But I think if that person doesn't wan to hear any negative feedback, no matter how nicely I put, they just wont listen. And will "hate" u cos u rated them down. That's probably y very one here are becoming hypocrites.
