From a girl who changed her blogging area about 10 times...
Blogger
Advantages
- Comments Available
- Easy to change template
- Good for group blogs
- Archives
Disadvantages
- Blogger Navbar
- No password protection (even if you use javascript, it's very easy to hack)
Livejournal
Advantages
- Protection (Privacy locks, Friends-only locks)
- Comments Available
- Music/Mood Display
- Archives
- Good for communities and group blogs
- Displays friends' recent entries (very useful)
- User pictures
- Memories (most memorable entries are saved especially)
- Amusing memes (little quizzes on LJ that use your friends usernames to generate funny stuff)
Disadvantages
- Style overrides make it difficult to change layout
Pitas
Advantages
- Full control over templates (making it easy to integrate onto a website, which is a BIG plus)
- Archives
Disadvantages
- No comments available (but you can get from haloscan.com)
- No password protection
Diaryland
Advantages
- Protection (Journal lock, password protection)
- Guestbook Available
- Favourite entries (something like memories in LJ)
- Templates fairly easy to change (like pitas.com)
- Notes (where other users can leave notes for you)
- Archives
Disadvantages
- No comments available (but you can get from haloscan.com)
Xanga
Advantages
- Archives
- User pictures
- Custom skin walkthrough
- Comments Available
- Guestbook
- Protected listings (something like friends-only in LJ, but only up to 10)
- Blocked users (very useful if you have a flamer on your site)
- Posting Calendar
Disadvantages
- In my opinion, Xanga layouts are hard to change. But that's just my opinion.

Great Tips, but some of the sites you add javascript for stuff so thats not really a disadvantage, but yeah....

Hmm so which blog area you used finally ?
|
| |
| |
|

advertisements are just a google banner on top. however, i just cover it up with a div layer.
hope other blog host users also post here.

|

hmm.... you forgot one more blogsite: http://blogs.cjb.net.
Advantages:
- Comments Available
- Easy to change template
- Archives
- Privacy locks(internal, so not easy to hack)
- Full control over the template, can insert own url with ease.
Disadvantages:
- Not good for group blogs
- I suppose that since its cjb.net blog site, they will wish you to use their web space to host your own image.
- Persistant offers (but you just can close the webpage and open a new one. Cos by the time, your account has been created).

*claps* i applaude you!

Gosh.
the best blogging tool is wordpress.
(:
Otherwise, I would prefer diaryland

If your server allows PHP, by all means, use b2. Greymatter uses CGI bin, that one is also easy to use. But a pain to install on your domain.
I used b2 because I converted my site to php, and at that time I didn't know how to convert greymatter into php.

blogger does allow comments from non-members...but each person has control over their blog (settings) to choose just who may comment: nobody, everybody or just blogger members
perhaps the blog-hosts who don't have password protection could update their sites to include it.
If your blog host doesn't yet, why not write a note requesting it?
~~~~Great info! Thanks for sharing.
Yea, I considered changing to wordpress before... But I'm too lazy to reconfigure everything =P
After 1 year of stability I've forgotten everything about PHP and CGI-Bin stuff.
Hey have you guys looked at Globe Of Blogs:
It has all the blog listings, or companies that work with blog, from all around the world. The list up above is just a fragment of other options out there... Check it out
Actually, I prefer Xanga. You maybe do not have the grip on how to change the blog layout. Xanga is better than Blogger. I am currently using blogger to compare if Xanga or Blogger is better
it seems like livejournal is the best.
but i still prefer blogger.
if you are using cbox or any comment tool.
and if someone spams you can just like delete .
so its not much of a problem.
yeah i agree xanga skins are hard to find.
even if you found it,some may not know where to place it(:
haha
