BlogSkins.com FAQGeneral
Nice going. The first thing to do is to check the list of existing bugs at the bottom of this F.A.Q. If it's not down there, go ahead and shoot me an e-mail at bugs@blogskins.com and let me know as much information as possible (what you were trying to do, your username, your browser, your platform, etc.). I'll do my best to fix it. [top] It would be really cool if you would add _____ to the site. Will you? I'd love to, really. I think that BlogSkins should be able to do everything that everyone would like it to do. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard enough time getting it to do everything that it is already supposed to do for everybody. However, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to hear your ideas. Go ahead and let me know your idea(s) at suggestions@blogskins.com. If I end up using your idea, or a variation thereof, I will of course give you credit. [top] What do the types M and A mean? Each skin can be one of two types: Main and Archive Index. Skins of type Main will be applied to your main index page as well as the individual archive pages. Skins of type Archive Index will be applied to the page that shows the links to all your individual archive pages. It is not uncommon for skin creators to create matching skins for their designs, so if you find one skin of a type that you like, try searching for the skin name to find its match. [top] I forgot my password. Please send it to me. Shoot. I need to let you do this automatically, don't I? Workin' on it. [top] I want you to host the images for my skin because I'm getting tired of people stealing my bandwith. Can you do that? I know. We all are. The simple solution would be for people to not steal bandwith in the first place, but, like David Hasselhoff, that problem is not going to go away. I'd love to offer a BlogSkins feature that would handle this problem, and one is already stewing around in my brain, but it's gonna have to stay on the back burner for a while. [top] Am I, as a developer, required to link to BlogSkins and/or Blogger in my skin? Per the Blogger Terms of Service, free Blogger users are required to link back to Blogger, so just to be safe, all skins must link back to Blogger using this button. Blogger Pro users can remove the picture if they wish. As for linking back to BlogSkins, it is certainly not required, but strongly encouraged :-). Future skin versions may require linkage to us, but we're not sure yet. [top] When do I become soopa-famous? Hey, we've got nothin' to do with that. It's all you. [top] What's the "The Basics" feature? These are your standard weblog elements. Titles, dates and times, content, comments links, etc. See the skinning specs for more information. [top] What's the "Internal Navigation" feature? Note: Not yet implemented. These are the links on a weblog that point to other pages that are part of the same site. For example, links to an about page, a resume, a pictures page, etc. Using this feature allows you to change your design easily without losing your internal links. Neat, huh? [top] What's the "Outside Links" feature? Note: Not yet implemented. As the name suggests, these would be links that point to pages outside your weblog, like your friends' sites, or sites that you admire. Again, the point of this is to allow you to change your design easily without losing your outside links. [top] What's the "Webcam" feature? Note: Not yet implemented. Got a webcam? Like it to stay on your site? Choose skins with this feature, and your webcam picture will be preserved. [top] What's the "Personal Info" feature? Note: Not yet implemented. You like people to know things about you, so you put it on your weblog. Height, weight, age, location, sex, hair color, school, whatever. If you don't want to have to type all this information in every time you pick a new skin, let us remember it for you. [top] My skin is all messed up in the preview. What gives? In my experience, the preview function works almost perfectly. Sometimes it will mess up archive links. Not sure why. But if you are absolutely, 100% sure that the preview is incorrect for your skin, let me know at bugs@blogskins.com, and I'll look into it. [top] I can't sign up. What gives? If you're trying to signup for a "Blogger User" account here, and it's not working, then it's likely an issue with the Blogger API. The best thing to do in this situation is to sign up for a "Regular User" account, and sit tight. I'll be implementing a work-around for this problem soon. [top] BlogSkins does not recognize my newly-added blog. What gives? Even after performing a refresh, BlogSkins does not recognize some newly-added Blogger weblogs. I don't know why. Sometimes, adding a few posts to that weblog and then refreshing again will work. Sometimes just waiting a while will work. Unfortunately, the problem is not on my end, so there's not really anything I can do about it. [top] "Refresh My Blogs" gives me an error. What gives? This is, most likely, a Blogger API issue. Although there's always a chance that it could be my code, of course. If you continually get this error, please let me know at bugs@blogskins.com. I will probably not be able to respond to your message personally, but at least you will know that I know ;-). [top] |
