As for your first try i'm sorry if what i am about to say might offend you or etc but it's just so you can improve k? i'm not saying my designs are flawless to cmmnt you but just giving some tips

1. the background seems empty thus it doesn't bring up the content of the page much.
2. The watermark. if the image isn't by you, you can't simply claim it's your by putting your wtermark there and a quite large one too. The icon used is a low quality so i prefer to not use any graphics.
3. the cell spacing between the two columns are too far apart.
4. the brownish-orange color doesn't seem to match with the pink link color too.

try exploring more color palettes that matches @ colourlovers.com perhaps and try to get inspiration or idea of your own by browsing those active users' skins here && i love your effort to post it here and asking what your skin is lacking of, it shows that you want to improve^^
